He was one of the worst profs I've had at Marshall. The class should be worthwhile but he is really, really bad.

"Shane is really bright and knows his stuff inside and out. However this sometimes has the effect of getting really into the weeds and overwhelm students who are new to the material. It is an accounting class so it's rather try- however if you're looking to learn your way around income statements and balance sheets this is a must take class."

"Professor is the worst. Why? 1. His teaching style is very slow, his voice is slow and his slides the most unhelpful. 2. He doesnt know how to teach to MBA students. 3. His syllabus is the worst I have seen. No dates of when the quizzes or the assignments are due. Having said that, the class is really useful."

The concepts covered are very important but the professor is not very effective in explaining them. I would take the class with a different professor.

Excellent class for a person like myself that wants to get better at finance.

It was good exposure to financial statements, though the class could have taken a much deeper dive on the issues. I feel like at the end of the class I had stronger understanding of the mechanics of accounting, but not necessarily being able to interpret how healthy a company was based on their financial statements.

This is what the core Accounting should be. Just enough accounting to understand how to work with financial statements, forecasting, and valuing companies. This is what MBAs do, not T balances.

Professors slides in class are terrible. Makes basic ideas complex and confusing.

The content of the class is fair. The professor covered most of important concepts and issues in accounting. Yet personally I think some of the contents were way to detailed. Also the decks were not highly organized -- it is somehow hard to read and follow for me. Only 3 this class to someone who is going to do related careers like financial analyst or accountant.

It's a good class to take if you are not clear about accounting. I wish he was the core accounting prof. He doesn't like to be questioned, but overall humorous young professor. It's a combo of valuations, accounting tricks to look at on public company filings. I've learned a lot.

The material is great. However the professor lacks structure. A major part of the class are accounting students and the professor doesn't account for the fact that the MBA's are not at a high 'accounting' level. Monotonous tone of lectures makes it hard to keep interested.

A deeper look at accounting learned in Core. A lot of group projects and quizzes (instead of midterm) which can be time consuming.

Class can be like watching paint dry BUT it is an extremely valuable course, and taught accounting from a high-level perspective like I wish we had learned in CORE. Heitzman cares that we learn the stuff and will teach it at any level in office hours. Lots of work, lots of value.

Solid class where you learn to pick a part company's financials. It can be a little accounting heavy but is definitely worth it. He uses a lot of his experience which is helpful.

Very good class and professor. Covers a lot of material within a short period of time.. If you are a finance guy, this class would be a breeze. Otherwise, prepare to put in a solid 5-6 hours of effort (weekly) to learn the concepts well. He is very lenient when it comes to grading.

The professor is a bit disorganized. I definitely learned a lot, but more structure would have helped.
