Who is this class for? Everyone should take this course for personal wealth management Final Thoughts: The professor is very nice but old, so he cannot give lecture in an efficiently understandable way - He does not know how to use digital tools to help with the course, just verbal narration, so need self learning after class. But overall it's not hard especially on an exam perspective and it gives a great foundation for my personal wealth management
Fall 2017 · Wang; Kinshalla · 3 units
This is a challenging class that requires a strong time commitment to stay on top of the material. The project is particularly difficult, as not all aspects of it are covered in course material. The majority of students in the class are Masters of Accounting, so MBAs with shaky accounting backgrounds might be behind. The first half of the class is strongly focused on tax implications for M&A. If this is the career area you are definitely interested in pursuing it teaches a lot of useful material; but if not I would not recommend.

actually divided into tax planning part and accounting part for each semester. Prof. Wang is really kind and helpful, the exam is open-booked and quite straightforward. Worth taking if you wish to know some IB and tax planning knowledge in M&A.

Loved the tax portion of the class. The accounting portion is more for accounting students rather than those interested in Finance. However, the professors for both sections are great in their own way.

Not a very good course

This is a split class taught by Shiing-Wu Wang and Patrick Dennis Kinsella . Wang taught the taxation part and Kinsella taught the accounting part. Despite the dullness of taxation, Wang did an amazing job teaching the subject. He would go breakdown the complex tax concepts into simple and relatable chunks that were easy to understand. Definitely 3 the part with Wang. Kinsella is a different story. He's a former KPMG partner, but he's really not good at teaching. His classes are really really slow and dry.

Class is great for understanding the tax and basic accounting implications of M&A structures. Most students are focusing on careers in IB or finance, however the class is high level enough for non-IB/finance students to gain solid insight into the M&A world.

The two parts of this class will be separated going forward, Professor Wang (for the tax part) is very good - clear, concise and instructive.

The class is important for any future investment banking or investment professional. Half of the class is comprised of the tax consequences of M&A transactions and half is related to the accounting for M&A transactions. The material is advanced and it moves at a fast pace, but it's very valuable learning experience and the coursework is directly applicable to anyone entering IB/VC/PE or working on M&A transactions.

One of the best classes I've had at Marshall. The first half is focused on Tax Accounting and it is really interesting / useful. If you are thinking of a career in sell side or buy side finance, this class is a must.

One of the best electives I have in Marshall. If you are interested in M&A, definitely take this class. Professor Wang is one of the top professors in tax territory of accounting. Regrettably, the other half of the class with regard to financial accounting of M&A will never been taught by Professor Trezevant, who was an excellent educator.
