Large group project that requires each team member to interview at least 5 people. Class sessions aren't really relevant to the project. Assigned book is actually really valuable (Dave parker, Trajectory: Startup)
Fall 2022 · Kickul, Jill · 3 units
Do not take the class if it is offered MSEI/MSSE students. I found them not serious about the lectures or the entrepreneurial ideas. The course structure is really good, and you can get a lot of out of it if you take the class with the right people. Jill has great experience in new ventures, and she gives a lot of time for groups to apply class concepts to their venture ideas. But as I said, it all depends on the group of people taking this course

I'm trying to give the professor the benefit of the doubt because they were swapped into teaching the class last minute. With that said, the class is wildly unorganized. Almost everything in the syllabus has changed (either due dates are altered or miscellaneous assignments have popped up altogether). And though it is a lot of work (new decks/presentations almost every week), the changing criteria for each assignment (or last minute new assignments) is what really adds a lot of unnecessary stress.

I would totally not recommend the professor. The course is workload heavy, no effort by professor to teach/bring in speakers, the course outline in the syllabus and what we actually do in class is out of sync.

Great course if you are planning on launching something now, or in the very new future. Would not reccomend to someone who isn't serious about becoming an entrepreneur.

This is a great class for anyone interested in launching their own idea, be it a startup, or an idea at a big company.

There is not a lot of novel content in this class. Most of the information can be found in other classes. The benefit of this class is that it provides a step-by-step project that lets you work through the process of establishing a new company. For individuals with entrepreneurship goals, the chance to work through a project like this could be very valuable. Mednick is great but classes themselves can be a little dull.

Professor is very passionate, great speakers, work load is perfect. You spend the semester bringing one of your ideas to life in the form of a business, which makes it very enjoyable.

The assignments in this class are helpful if you are planning to start a business. They help you think through all aspects and provide a strong conceptual framework. Class was often boring though, we talked about the same thing over and over again. It felt like we didn't have enough to talk about to fill a class, and we had some very boring guest speakers. Still, I think if you are planning to start a business this is a useful class because it takes you through the necessary beginning steps to get to the start line. You also learn what not to do in entrepreneurship, which is always helpful.

Professor spent like the first 3 weeks selling the class, talking about what you were GOING to do, without actually doing anything. However, when it picks up there is lots of useful information.

Good class with practical exposure.
