Fall 2025 · Gunther Shugerman, Sherry · 1.5 units
This class is split between lectures on the recent history of the Entertainment industry, a few guest speakers, and a team project where you come up with a new venture and pitch the class. Prof has an amazing background in kids animation and is generous with her knowledge and leveraging contacts to bring in equally cool guests. The lectures are hit or miss - if you know the industry you won't learn anything new. The team project is fun and the q&a with classmates is brutal but helpful.

Great class not only to gain insight on the evolving industry of entertainment but also the entrepreneurial opportunities that exist within the industry.
Spring 2022 · Gunther Shugerman, Sherry · 1.5 units
If you are interested in learning more about the entertainment space, Professor Sherry has many connections and brings in several speakers to share their stories and advice in the industry. The work is very doable. A few papers and a final presentation. It was a great class and she often invites students to have dinner with the speakers to establish relationships.

Professor Sherry has amazing experience in the film, TV, animation, CPG & Ed Tech industries. Her classes bring in guest speakers from some of these fields so it is a great networking opportunity. The class also offers opportunities to create a pitch for your own start-up and improve it along the way. Course work is very light and the professor is flexible. It's a very good 1.5 credit class for people interested in understanding the entrepreneurial mindset in the entertainment industry. The only downside is that you may not find a lot of value add if you're interested in Sports, Music or Gaming.

I don't think 1.5 credit classes are very valuable to begin with (either too little content or way too much that it should be a 3 credit class). This one falls on the little side. Very manageable from a workload perspective and Sherry is very nice (albeit a bit unorganized) but if you've worked in the media/entertainment field then none of the content will likely be new to you. It could be a nice refresher for prepping with interviews and if you're not familiar with the space then it does coiver the major trends nicely.
