Spring 2023 · Saban, Daniela · 3 units
The course consists mostly of working in pairs on mini-cases during the class period, there is no homework but you should expect to spend an hour or so outside of the class working on redoing the minicases in order to be successful. Daniela is a fantastic professor and is very pleasant to engage with. If you're unfamiliar with excel you should absolutely take this class.
Spring 2023 · Saban, Daniela · 3 units
Even though Daniela is a visiting professor, I would still recommend this class. Professor Bayiz has said he plans on teaching this class in the future and will focus on teaching students how to use various softwares including Tableau.

Daniela is a visiting professor from Stanford but she is great. Somewhat dry but cares about you learning and understanding. Class is very hands on and mini-case based with one completed during each class. Only graded assignments are class participation (participation in mini-cases tracked via google spreadsheet), take home midterm (timed) and takehome final (timed).
Spring 2022 · Subramanian, Bala · 3 units
There's some useful and interesting information in this course, but there are a ton of deliverables. If you're just taking electives, it might be ok, but I found it to be an excessive workload along with the core classes. He also grades on accuracy for assignments so they are definitely a challenge.

Professor's teaching is very bad. Would never recommend him for any course. He cannot explain concepts because he is confused most of the time.
Fall 2022 · Ochiumi, Hiroshi · 3 units
Professor is very kind, patient, and wants his students to succeed, but his teaching style is just not for me. I do not think the tools we have learned so far are very applicable/transferable.
Spring 2021 · Subramanian, Bala · 3 units
Professor is very accomodating and nice, though a little dry. He teaches the concepts well and the concepts are extremely useful, everyone coming out with an MBA should know this stuff. I was very good at excel before and now would say I'm even better

Used a mac and was able to easily use Bootcamp. The content was great but his teachings were a bit dry. I learned what I needed/expected from this class.
Spring 2021 · Subramanian, Bala · 3 units
Useful content, espcially if you want to sharpen your excel and data analysis skills. I found the professor to be frustratingly vague and not great at explaining complicated concepts. Most everyone got Cs on the final exam. If he'd been better at teaching, would have ben a very valuable course. Also if you're a mac user, get ready to download an array of programs and add-ons.

Professor is accommodating, content is useful and applicable to the workplace, advanced excel class
Spring 2020 · Srinivasan, Ashok · 3 units
The content is interesting for those who want to learn more about Excel and linear/non-linear programming. However, there are limited real world applications (example are mostly book problems), and the lectures can be a bit dry. Professor is very accomodating to students' requests and needs.

The professor is very kind, but the class is very dry and slow moving, with few real world examples.

This class is a good deeper dive into excel, and can be taken with ops. The two play off each other very well.
Fall 2020 · Subramanian, Bala · 3 units
If you are already decent with Excel, this class may not be the most useful but could explore a few topics you may not have much experience with. If you do not have any excel skills, this will be very challenging as evidenced by other comments here. Bala himself is knowledgeable but he's not the best at explaining things. However he's still much better than Hiroshi.

I originally signed up for this course because Murat Bayiz was teaching it, however Prof Subramanian took over. Such a disappointment!
Fall 2020 · Ochiumi, Hiroshi · 3 units
We spend a lot of time in breakout rooms, so if you don't like that, you won't like this class. I enjoyed the breakout rooms because we got to activly work on the concepts we're learning. Would definitely prefer him walking through a concept in excel once before having us attempt them, but overall good class. The work isn't too hard and they're mostly group projects. Pretty manageable workload.

Take this class if you want to learn how to model various business problems in multiple industries. Very practical course that I eneded up learning skills that I could use for Case competitions, in my career, and throughout my internship.
Fall 2020 · Ochiumi, Hiroshi · 3 units
Definitely learning a lot more about modeling and using Excel Solver to buid models than from Ops Management in core. Class sizes are smaller so it's more intimate. Being virtual, Hiroshi enjoys putting us into small breakout rooms, but as the material becomes more dense it would be better if he walked us through the problems rather than letting us flounder. Overall, definitely recommend just to build your excel knowledge.
Fall 2020 · Ochiumi, Hiroshi · 3 units
Hiroshi spends way too much time sending us to Zoom breakout rooms where time is wasted. Not a valuable class. It builds on further lessons learned in Operations. Unless you are going into an operations role, this class may not be as applicable as others.
Fall 2019 · Ochiumi, Hiroshi · 3 units
The modelling taught in this class is really good and will be very helpful in future. However, professor is not good in explaining the concept.
