Workload is very manageable, mostly focused on the semester-long group project and studying for quizzes. You rank your preferences for a list of projects at the start of the semester. Best course for those interested in healthcare roles after graduation.

Who is this class for? If you are interested in working on the provider side of the healthcare industry, then this is a great course that gives us the opportunity to work with real-world clients. Final Thoughts: Professor Dasu is highly knowledgeable and one of the best instructors I have had so far. He makes the class very engaging by sharing his 20+ years of experience working with clients in the healthcare industry. Professor Cosimo teaches the analytical part of the course, and he is very good at it.

We work with real-world clients, which can sometimes make scheduling meetings and coordinating timings challenging. The course equally integrates operations and data science. It includes individual homework assignments, quizzes, and group work. Who is this class for? Students interested in operations in healthcare Final Thoughts: Overall, working with real-world clients is a valuable experience, though the project can be quite vast, which may limit your ability to contribute significantly. However, it provides a great glimpse into the operations side of the healthcare system. Professor Dasu is an excellent instructor.

If you are interested in the healthcare industry as a future function highly recommend this class. You explore topics beyond just the operations aspects of healthcare and the projects you get to chose from cover a broad range of applications so you can really dive deep where you are the most curious / passionate. Prof Dasu is not always the most engaging lecturer but is a nice person and very flexible with the project to make sure your team can be successful.

The discussions and lectures move SLOW, but the curation of topics is excellent for a survey on health care operations. All of the projects offered looked really good and interesting. It's definitely the most interesting project I'm working on this semester! I'm absolutely sure I'll be applying what I'm learning in my healthcare career. Dasu is a super kind person.

Class is pretty dry but the cases are useful and well-selected. The big selling point of this class is the consulting project - extremely valuable in getting some real-world experience if you're looking at healthcare consulting, and the international experiences are amazing if you're looking for that as well. My consulting project for a healthcare company in a foreign country was absolutely one of the highlights of my time at Marshall as an MBA. Do note that you will need to fund your travel yourself if you decide to pursue that option. If you have no interest in healthcare then don't take this, otherwise it's an obvious fit since it's hard to find other coursework looking at healthcare at Marshall.
Spring 2017 · Dasu, Sriram · 3 units
Very useful class for those interested in operations, even those with no particular interest in healthcare as many of the skills are transferable. Excel and other softwares used for analytics, modeling, etc (class starts with very basic skills which are probably repetitive for many MBAs but also moves into other topics like time series modeling. Project-based class with outside companies where the value of the class depends somewhat on the project you get assigned. Medium/high amount of work mostly focused on consulting project.

If you are interested in working in healthcare/healthcare consulting (payer/provider) this class is very useful. Mostly a project based course, working with a well known hospital provider solving real world problems. There is a decent amount of reading, half the class is data analysis, while the other half is analyzing cases. Professor Dasu is very knowledgable on the subject as he consults for the companies you would be working with. Can be a bit boring at times.

Excellent class and taught by an excellent professor. 3 taking it even if you are not interested in healthcare - insightful discussions and assignments that have applications across the MBA curriculum board. Diverse class as well - not just MBA students so you get a rounded perspective. 3 taking.

The professor should be allowed to make this almost an entirely project based course. I am not receiving much value from the cases/class time but the consulting project has been amazing and a great learning experience.

Excellent operations class and a must for anyone interested in healthcare. Great guest speakers, cool projects to work on with real companies/hospitals. Always over-subscribed so make sure you get in!

Dasu is a great professor who really wants students to gain a better understanding of healthcare industry. Not having a final is a nice bonus. However, if project is not very engaging there is a limit to how much some students would enjoy the class.
Fall 2015 · Dasu, Sriram · 3 units
I was most excited for this class this semester and was severely disappointed by the constant repetition of the same lessons in class (basically Dasu just says "hospitals are inefficient, use Lean tactics blah blah blah"). It's a very limited view on Healthcare Operations, only focuses on provider, not inclusive of the lack of incentive alignment across the HC supply chain. Project/consulting work was VERY good, I learn a lot from my client (LA County Emergency Dept), however Dasu kept limited our team's potential to make an impact and was disrupting the relationship with the client, it's been very frustrating.

Dasu is a good professor and very knowledgeable in this field. If you plan on working in healthcare at all the exposure on the projects in this class is really awesome. The class can be kind of boring and it being from 630-930 doesn't help but it is very helpful in understanding how and why the healthcare system is the way that it is.
