Not so much a Fixed Income course. Light workload. More about the history of capital markets and the mechanics of central bank, fed, etc. Would recommend for those interested in capital market dynamics

Thought fixed income concepts would help on the job, but even corporate finance had more fixed income compared to all the classes combined for this elective. It's just treasury and BTC talk. No yields, duration, spreads, etc.

Professor typically covers less than 3 slides per class and spends most of the class time letting students ask relevant/irrelevant questions. Although what we learned is limited, we're asked to write an in-depth research paper on fixed income/monetary policy by the end of the semester. Moreover, the content the Professor teaches are more on the history of money, instead of fixed income, as this class is supposed to cover.

The class is very inefficient and unorganized. It's very typical for the professor to spend the whole class answering whatever questions from the class or just randomly throw his thoughts about the market. I would say the content covered in the whole semester can be taught in 5 classes at the maximum. If you really want to learn something from this class, be sure to write a syllabus yourself, prepare tons of questions, and read papers/watch youtube videos after class to further dig into the content taught in class.
Fall 2017 · Griffiths, Mark D · 3 units
Took it because I'm generally interested in fixed income but will not be working in the space. Don't think there are too many MBAs in the class (Masters of Finance or Financial Engineering I think). It's interesting but FI can get very technical and challenging and unless you're working in it. Professor was entertaining, insightful, and had good background even if he can go off on tangents every so often.
Fall 2015 · Moyer · 3 units
Moyer has a lot of real life industry knowledge and does an excellent job in describing the business models for different fixed income securities. I would highly 3 this class to anyone interested in finance.

Need to change to 3 unit class

If you want to work in fixed-income, then this class is for you. Otherwise stay far away. The prof isn't great either. He brushes over difficult concepts and doesn't provide great explanations to student questions.
Fall 2015 · Moyer · 1.5 units
Moyer is not taking this class this year, so don't know how interesting this would be. But content covered was helpful to learn about bond trading.

Subject can be difficult, but I learned a lot. Midterm, Final, few hws, group project. Reasonable amount of work. Did a great job of teaching the basics. Got somewhat difficult at the end though because he tried to cram a lot of complicated material into a few classes.
