Slow and unstructured
Fall 2025 · Ku, Suh-Pyng · 3 units
Prof. Ku doesn't really teach portfolio management as much as the class is just a seminar / roundtable with other students who are fund managers. The biggest benefit of the class is getting to go off-campus to do finance firm visits a couple of times each semester. Would recommend it for that aspect.

If you can get into SIF - do it. Just enough said, this is literally the best opportunity that Marshall has to offer (for ALL careers) except perhaps entertainment. You get to meet the most successful USC alumni in New York and SF

One of the most unique courses at Marshall. Having the ability to manage real money and make realtime decisions on portfolio construction is something that not many schools can offer. We are lucky to have the SIF course and it is a fantastic learning experience for those who want to embrace it.

Scott is a great professor no matter the class he teaches, but this class is among the best at Marshall. Stock pitches are fun and filled with lively debate. It's a shame that it's online this semester. Some of the portfolio theory is difficult to understand, but the class does not penalize you for being slower to understand. Some of the guest lecturers are really interesting.

The semester was stock pitches and guest speakers. I thought it was great.

SIF class so not everyone gets access to this class. Great opportunity to learn from peers. Extremely unique access to investment professionals.
Fall 2017 · Scott Abrahms / Dean Ku · 3 units
Spring 2016 · Healy, James; Hamud, Mark · 1.5 units
The professors and guest speakers are very experienced in the industry, and they come solely to talk about what is happening in Fintech. Not a heavy loaded class, but if you want to learn anything about FinTech, this is a perfect start! Plus you can make connections if you are looking to work in FinTech
