We have 2 papers and 1 final. Who is this class for? Students who are fully engaged into entertainment industry, scewed to film and little bit of music Final Thoughts: The speaker the professor brings in are chief executives of the entertainment industry, they give great insights on their work and industry. However the professor part is usually history of the Hollywood and Chinese movie industry.

Who is this class for? Anyone interested in entertainment - specifically films and TV Final Thoughts: Amazing guest speakers

We have 2 open topic group papers and general reading for each week. Professor Young is very easy going. The class outside of speakers can feel a bit basic at times, but Professor Young has some good stories and his in-depth knowledge on Chinese cinema is very interesting. Who is this class for? Students who want to hear from industry leaders in entertainment and have a curiosity about the ins and outs of distribution, residuals, and other in-depth topics. Final Thoughts: The guest speakers are insanely cool and high level, and for that reason alone this class is a great choice for anyone interested in the film/TV business.

Mark brings in a lineup of guest speakers that is absolutely top notch. It isn't necessarily clear what the structure of the class material is, but Mark gives a comprehensive overview of the history and processes of entertainment and Hollywood. The class can be long when there are mainly lectures, especially as a 3-hour night class, but it is easy to participate in class.

The class should be taken if you want to hear directly from industry professionals in high level positions discussing the various nuances of their day-to-day on the job. Some of the gust speakers leave you a tad bit starstuck simply because of the professional experiences they've had. Beyond the guest speakers the class can be a bit much. While the professor is extremely well-mannered and well-read on the course material, some of the lectures can be an ordeal to sit through. Nevertheless, if media/entertainment is your target industry, the list of guest speakers alone is a good enough reason to take this class.

You take this class because Mark has great guest speakers. Netflix head of content, Disney SVP of finance and planning, Sony head of VR, partners at leading business management firms, CAA president -- to name highlights. When there's not a speaker, it can be very dense, with very basic history of / present day entertainment world info.

s it is an introductory class to entertainment where prof will try to give a glimpse of all businesses within the industry. The best part of this class is a wide exposure to industry veterans as guest speakers. Workload is relatively light

Truly incredible guest speakers. Lectures can get tedious but the professor is very sweet. 3 hours of this class can be tough and usually by the 8pm mark, I find myself regretting taking the class entirely.

This is the class with the best guest speakers (like Bela Bejaria COO of Netflix level), However know that during the classes when there is no guest speaker, you will feel like your brain is rotting because it doesn't seem like the professor can contribute anything useful to this topic

Amazing speakers from different areas in the creative industries (Netflix, Amazon, Paramount, etc.) The workload involves reading three texts and a quiz on each. The final is a group presentation.

If you have no entertainment experience and want a great backgrounder/history class on the entertainment industry (film, streaming, TV, music, and VR), this is a great class to take. It's also a great class if you just want a more relaxed, fun class environment with the nicest professor ever (I believe he used to be a Dean at Marshall) with decades of experience and connections. We have literally 12 different guest speakers, all of which are VPs or SVPs at leading entertainment companies (studios, streamers, record labels, etc.). This might not be for some students, since the class structure is always short lecture, then some videos, then some discussion, and lastly guest speaker, and you won't learn any technical skills. However, I still think there's a lot of value in this class for entertainment newbies.

This course is great for the speakers that Professor Young is able to bring in, which include some of the top business leaders across studios. While there are aspects that seem a bit obvious during the class, the readings do provide a deeper understanding of the entertainment business. This class is not difficult per say, but only take it if you're interested in the Entertainment business, otherwise you may find it superfluous.

Professor Young brings in phenomenal guests (CFOs from across the entertainment spectrum: examples included Netflix, Sony, Fox, Hulu, Amblin). The lecture material itself gives a good overview of how the studio industry really works. There is a very small aspect looking at music and gaming, but don't expect deep dives into either of those.

If you want to sit and listen to Dr. Young talk about all the different times he met various famous people, then this is the class for you. Total waste of money/time. Better off watching Access Hollywood.

I was warned not to take the class and took it anyway - it is my own fault. This is your warning. Professor Young teaches the class as a fan of the industry, not as an industry professional. The readings for the course (4 entire books) are not worth the time they take to read for a quiz where some of the answers can be guessed. The one positive is that the speakers he brings in are great.
