The most time-consuming course I have taken at Marshall, but it is a great course for people interested to know more about the different aspects of sustainability today. The syllabus covers all relevant aspects of sustainability, and there is focus on ESG, GRI, LEED etc. The course focuses more on knowledge transfer than on the strategy aspect of it, hence it might be more useful to understand the industry as a whole. If you have heavy coursework in other courses, beware as this course has too much workload.

this professor is the worst i've ever experienced at Marshall. no offense to the person above, but the professor is terrible. he has no background in sustainability and is not addative whatsoever in class. there is an absurd amount of work and the professor doesn't actually teach. avoid Adler at all cost.

This professor is excellent, one of the best at Marshall. Probably the best strategy course I've taken at Marshall, the cases are interesting and the professor really challenges students to learn and get better. This course is hard, not necessarily in its grading but in the amount of assignments and reading, so be prepared for that. If you are interested in sustainability at all this is a must take course

There is LOTS of readings, and the professor requires you to write a case note & reading note before class, and take-away note after class... If you are interested into environmental sustainability and company "green commitment" and PR strategy in environment topics, you should take this. If you want to leave more time for recruitment, don't take the class, it takes tooo much time. If you just want to board your insight and learn something different, take it! you will learn a lot!

The amount of work in this class is beyond unacceptable. There's a case + essay on the case + 2-4 readings + essays on each reading + posted take aways after class EVERY WEEK. The content is interesting, but you have 1-2 teams presenting on the case each class (meaning you have to present on 2 cases throughout the semester - not joking on the amount of work) and there are a lot of non-FT MBA students in the class which is obnoxious. You have to really love the content to make it even sort of worth while, which I do, but even then, this class is miserable.

Class was a waste of time. Its just another strategy class through the lens of environmental sustainability. I was very excited to take this class and was very disappointed. A lot of work with not a lot of reward. Adler doesn't really teach. Students present their team interpretation of the case. 2 student presentations per class and Adler provides commentary. He drills down into his single framework for the whole semester. One plus is he is very responsive to feedback. During mid-year review, the entire class complained about the work and he cut it down substantially. Also, no tests or quizzes, just lots of little assignments due every week and a big project at the end of the semester.

Sweet class. Teacher is extremely smart, no-BS, straight to the point. Forces you to look at the challenges of sustainability through the eyes of management (looking at the other challenges such as profit, stakeholders, implementation etc.). One of the most useful classes I've taken at Marshall. More practical than theory. One of the best teachers. You'll learn a lot, regardless of your view on sustainability.

Must attend classes, a lot of reading and work on a weekly basis, but the strategic and critical thinking skills built through the process are well worth it!

This is one of the most challenging classes I have taken, and it is also one of the best classes. This strategy course has taught me to approach decisions is a more thoughtful, strategic way. I think this course will significantly influence my decision-making process in my future job. This class is a lot of work, so only sign up for it if you are passionate about the material.
