Lots of introspection and reflection essays. Who is this class for? Every MBA should apply for this class. Final Thoughts: Amazing class. The in-person practice of leadership techniques really helps solidify learning. The accountability group is among the best meetings I have had at Marshall.

Good for anyone who appreciated the leadership class during core or anyone who knows that they further along you get in your career the less time you will spend "doing" and the more you will spend "managing." Feels like a cross between a class and a club. Light workload, nice chance to mentor first years, and it's a full year so you really get to know your classmates in a way you don't in other classes. Tends to self-select: if you're into this stuff you're INTO it.

The class provides me a platform to reflect on my leadership and teamwork experience. It is a comfortable room to share your thoughts and be open to improve because everyone is very supportive. The professor is lovely.

The first half of the MLFP coursework is very theoretical. I think the main appeal of the program is the core team coaching experience during the second half of the coursework in the fall.
Spring 2023 · Heino, Rebecca · 1.5 units
First half is very theoretical and almost too rudimentary for MBA students. Class moves slowly and doesn't feel applicable to coaching MBA students but is more relevant to real world teams/situations. However, the value of the coaching experience and being in class with other like-minded students makes up for it.

As someone who wants to be a leader this is a great course thanks to my classmates. We have such honest conversations about difficult topics and I'll be able to apply learnings to my career. I like Becky as a person but think she missed the mark with this class. She simplifies things way too much for an MBA level leadership program.

This is the second half of the MLFP coursework. This semester we were able to apply what we learned to coach our teams and use the class to discuss any problems we may be facing with our teams. Professor Heino has been great and I have enjoyed learning from her.

As others have mentioned, you must apply to MLFP to get into this class. Professor Heino shares leadership materials and allows for discussions in small groups. It is P/NP so if you show up and show effort it will be a very valuable class.

This course is purely to prepare you for coaching a core team in the fall through the MLFP program (and ultimately, to prepare you to lead teams in the professional world). You get as much out of this class as you put in, and if you want to become a better leader, this is a prime opportunity at Marshall to do it.

Professor Heino does a good job of allowing student discussion and letting the students dictate how the class progresses. I have found the in-class discussions to be fruitful and am hopeful this skills I learn will help propell in my career.

This is the MLFP course which you need to apply to get in. Professor Heino was new to teaching it this year and I think its likely going to get better and better as she gets more comfortable. The class is similar to the core leadership course and has elements of the SAUP core course but in a smaller setting that allows for more dialogue. The quality of conversation really depends on who else in in the class with you. I have mixed feelings about this course since it feels so similar to other core courses but I think the potential is there and hopefully it keeps getting better.
