This course was an interesting view into the business side of sports. Pros: Prof Carter is entertaining, it's interesting to discuss an unbiased view into the business of sports, there is no mid-term or final (a few 5 page papers and a 15 page term paper). Cons: The material gets a little bit repetitive, the papers are done in pairs or groups - making it more difficult to manage with your schedule, the grading seems a bit subjective. I assume if you're going to work in sports that this would be relevant, otherwise it's a reasonable class but can be boring at times.

This class does a deep dive into one industry, which is a great way to learn the in's an out's of sports business. Carter is a great professor, and brings a lot of current events and great speakers to class.

Carter's class was very interesting. Mostly discussions based on readings pertaining to professional sports, college sports in the U.S., olympics, and current sports events. Really interesting to learn about the business side of sports, and even though I don't plan on going into a career in sports, I find that a lot of what we learn in this class can be applied to business in any industry. No exams, and the grade is composed of two 5 page papers written in pairs, and one final 20-page paper written in groups of 4. Would definitely recommend this class if you're interested in sports, or just curious about the business of sports.

Funny, chill guy. Very knowledgeable and well connected. Content is quite detailed and heavy with a lot of reading (which he honestly does not care if you read but prefers if you do). Get to really see a 360 perspective of the sports business side (versus just a fan).

This could be a good class in theory, but Carter doesn't care and the material is largely old. You'll learn a little bit about the finances behind and how decisions are made in sports business, but mostly you'll just listen to Carter ramble and make mediocre jokes you'll feel forced to laugh at. Easy class though.

Super fun class without too much of a workload. The course could probably be condensed into a half-semester 1.5 credit class, but was still enjoyable throughout. One of the best professors I've ever had, real sharp wit to complement his vast industry knowledge. Some good speakers too.

Professor Carter is deeply entrenched in the business side of sports. The course sheds light on the darker/monetary side of the industry, and helps to explain why teams make certain decisions. Carter has a very, very sarcastic sense of humor so make sure that you are ready for it.

I love this class and the professor. It's interesting, relatively easy, not an insane amount of work and good speakers. Highly reccomend, especially 2nd semester, 2nd year.

Prof. Carter is a very respected voice in the world of Sports Business. Yeah, he's a bit eccentric at times and his humor is more than a little acidic, but if those things don't bother you and you are interested in how the world of professional sports makes money, then take this class. It is discussion based and updated to stay relevant - even the Iditarod and esports are discussed. You will learn how to talk about the variety of stakeholders and revenue streams throughout the industry, from stadiums, sponsorships, revenue sharing agreements, and more. I put the work in to do the readings and participate in class, so your mileage may vary, but I learned a TON. 10/10

The content is strategy, just in the context of sports. Provides useful strategy/consulting frameworks, and you get to work on fun projects (assuming you're into sports). The guest speakers were pretty high profile from the sports industry, which was great.

Great class to hear about the inner workings of sports. Entertaining professor with moderate workload. You really don't need to purchase or read the course reader.

This class is fantastic if only for the discussions. Great viewpoints without allowing the class to become "sports fans".

Do not take this class if you have no interest in American Sports or the Sports Industry. Doesn't help. The average class understanding of the sports industry is pretty high. Therefore, you will feel left out when it comes to understanding the material and participating in the class

Anyone interested in a career in sports should take the class. Great guest speakers, fun readings and Carter keeps class entertaining with this unique sense of humor. Not overwhelming in terms of reading / work.

This class sounds super interesting and even seems interesting from the syllabus, but it really falls flat. Carter doesn't actually care about sports and is proud of it so the conversations are bizarre and he often sidesteps questions or talking in circles. Very low workload, so good class if you are looking for an easy filler.
