Excellent professor who actually cares about students. Good guest speakers and unique way of teaching the class (through structured debate).

Great class to get a broad understanding of different industries. Class objective seemed a bit unclear in the beginning but easy to manage after a few sessions. All the CFO sessions are extremely valuable, especially for personal investment purposes.

You learn A LOT from this class, if you keep up with the readings and participate in discussions. We really go in depth into the 10ish industries we explore during the class. Aside from the readings (which are not mandated but I would strongly encourage), the work load is light. Awesome speakers (CFOs) of large companies from around LA. Professor is very knowledgeable, responsive, and helpful. Amazing class -- must take.

provide a general and high-level insight for many different industries, have CFOs in class for presentation, need to prepare 2 group debates with another 2 groups for each semester.

This is a good course (not amazing or fantastic). It gives you a great overview of a number of different industries (biotech, consumer goods, asset management, media/entertainment, etc). It stays high level and allows you to understand some of the different challenges of each industry. Even if you are not a finance person, it helps give you an understanding to have intelligent, thoughtful conversations.

It is one of the best classes in USC. The professor invites lots of CFOs from top companies in different industry. It gives you a big picture look of how the business world is like. Honest speaking, the HW... Hum... but it worth.

This is not as great as many would have you believe, but still probably worth taking. John is awesome, some of the material is pretty bland which is why half the class isn't showing up. Two debates that take 25 minutes of defending your position while your classmates try to snipe you to get participation points. 10 very short answer these three questions in a paragraph papers. One final paper comparing two companies, 4 pages max, double spaced. Some good speakers, some not so good.

This class was very average. The speakers he brought in were pretty good (CFO's from large corporations) but the rest of the classes were mediocre. The class is centered on in-class debates about issues related to the companies whose CFO's we hear from. There are also weekly assignments due that are more busy work than actually useful.
