Spring 2025 · Brown, Garrett; Coggins, Colin
This class is light on workload but know they do not follow the syllabus for assignnments and move things around a lot Who is this class for? literally anyone. most people's career at some point will involve or influence sales so there are lessons for everyone here Final Thoughts: the professors are incredible and I love the class style/structure. But the type a side of my personality struggles with the ad hoc approach to the syllabus/assingments

Who is this class for? Students interested in discovering more about their family business Final Thoughts:
Spring 2025 · Jackley, Jessica
Not too much coursework that actually gets graded, so unsure of grading toughness. There are assignments but the professor gives you pretty much the entire semester to do them. Who is this class for? Those interested in founding their own business and are eager to speak to successful entrepreneurs. Final Thoughts: Really cool way to meet and network with founders, some USC alum and others not. It is very guest speaker based and if you find that you are not particularly interested in the speakers that come in, the class can get a bit mundane.
Spring 2025 · Brown, Garret; Coggins, Colin
The class is good if you want to learn the basics of sales. Who is this class for? Sales career driven Final Thoughts: The professors have written a book on sales together
Spring 2025 · Borquez, Anthony
Anthony isn't hung up on grading, it's more about giving a real-world lens into the business than teaching concepts. Who is this class for? This is without hyperbole the best course I've taken in my entire life. It completely opened my eyes to the industry and single-handedly justified my decision to come to Marshall. Final Thoughts: Lots of AI, so if that's not something you're interested in, it might not be the best fit.

Who is this class for? Anyone who is uncomfortable with sales or has never done sales should take this class to get more comfortable. Final Thoughts:
Spring 2025 · Borquez, Anthony
The criteria listed in the syllabus are not usually covered. The class is more focused on the usage of AI tools within the game industry. There are plenty of guest speakers, however the quality of the talks is not necessarily help our career development or learning new things. Who is this class for? Students who are into AI, have interest in Game Industry Final Thoughts:

Jared has a ton of amazing tech experience in high level positions. Not a typical class at all. 3 hours of open discussion and high level thoughts regarding why tech startups thrive/fail. Course load is extremely light.

Great professor and the class topics are very interesting.

Jared is a really insightful and knowledgeable professor. He is engaging and the class feels like a Ted talk at times. Although, I have learned about the challenges startups face, how to scale them and deal with competition it is often hard to take away tangible information from the class. Take the class if you want some insights into the world of tech entrepreneurship based on Professor Jared's affluent career in the space.

Jared is awesome. whatever he speaks makes sense. he has a resume to back it all up. he makes the students think about things you would not usually. the class environment is very inclusive and full of learnings

Jared is a fantastic professor and a highly accomplished leader and entrepreneur himself. This class is more seminar style than academic - the course load is extremely light with very little focus on assignments but if you are interested in how the world works and entrepeneurial strategy, you can take away a lot from this class. Jared also makes himself very available outside of class and he is an incredible resource.

This course does not include any exams and is entirely based on regular assignments. While this structure could be beneficial in theory, I found the grading to be quite unfair. Who is this class for? This class might be more suitable for students who already have a background in family businesses, especially those whose parents run a company. However, I would not recommend this course for international students. Based on my experience, international students tended to receive significantly lower grades, and it was unclear how the grading criteria accounted for different perspectives or backgrounds. Final Thoughts: Overall, I had a disappointing experience with this course. First, the course was extremely unorganized. Several guest speakers that were announced never showed up, and the professor seemed unfamiliar with Brightspace, which caused a lot of confusion—especially with the last few assignments. Second, the professor rarely responded to emails. This wasn’t just my personal experience; other students mentioned the same issue, which made it hard to seek clarification or support. Third, the grading felt unfair and unclear. I attended every class and actively participated along with another Asian female student, yet both of us received only a B. Meanwhile, some local students who was frequently absent received an A. We found this deeply unfair and discouraging. Future students should be aware that grading may not reflect effort or participation, and communication with the instructor can be very limited.

Jared is super knowledgeable and has done almost everything in the start-up/tech space. Definitely like listening to a TED for most of class, but his insights/experiences, and the way de delivers them, are truly unparalleled. One of the most interesting professors at Marshall.
Spring 2023 · Fox, Glenn · 1.5 units
The professor is so nice and he really likes this class. The professor comes from a neurscience background and the class is learning about how the brain works so that we can form strategies for how to manage our emotions when we're stressed. Very little classwork. The main project is about setting personal/career goals for a month. The only thing to note is that in a 3 hour seminar/lecture you cannot use laptops at all, he will stop until you close it.

Great class -- Glenn is great. Not very difficult but still learned a lot. Heavy focus on mindset, which is important for everyone regardless of career path.
Fall 2023 · Coppola Martin, Geraldine · 1.5 units
Professor Coppola has amazing career experience and listening to her stories is the best part of this class. The workload is relatively light and straightforward. The lectures can feel a bit long but she does a lot to try to break them up.
