Spring 2016 · Byars · 1.5 units
Professor Byars has good intentions, but this class is a complete joke compared to Patton's. Byars talks to you as if you are a middle school student that has never taken a communications course before. It's a very intro level course, and not worth your money or time if you are looking for something more challenging.

A lot of work but professor was super chill. Also presenting was a lot of fun.

Good prof, well put together class. Great experience presenting in ELC rooms and getting feedback.
Fall 2015 · Cardon · 1.5 units
Good class but a little light in content at times. Good for continuing improvement in presentation giving.

Feels like a high school class. The practice speeches are fine and the readings are ok, but the professor is an extremely easy grader. Most people were checked out during the lectures.

Professor is great. Class is useful. It just isnt enough time to really improve your speaking ability. I dont think the class should be eliminated, just adjusted somehow.

For those looking for Patton 2.0, I'm afraid to say that Pete Cardon's class is a shadow of Patton's class. You get to practice your speaking skills (three 7-10 min speeches), and read intriguing Operational Behavior types of readings, but the class discussions felt high-school level. There is a decent amount of busy work homework between classes, and his tests do not apply your knowledge, but are rather pure memorization of trivial facts. Overall it's a decently easy and relaxing class, just not MBA level.
