This class is NOT a natural progression to the MBA Data Science course, although it is supposed to be. If you come only from that course, the course might surprise you in its depth. It needs a much stronger handle on statistical analysis than the core course or even other application based analytics course. Dawn is as always, a great instructor. The course delves deeper into real world analyses for each of the regression techniques: simple/ols/multiple/weighted least squares, time series, etc. Assignments can feel hard but grading is probably lenient. Dawn makes it easy to understand, but expect to put in your own work to understand stats if you want to be theoritically sound. If not, it will give anyone who will do this kind of work enough practical tools. Sessions are recorded, attendance is not tracked (but I recommend going), assignment cadence is light.

If you liked Dawn's GSBA 524 class then you will be able to handle this class. Same teaching style, more advanced regressions. You do not use R, but JMP. Super intuitive platform. Class assignments are group homeworks and a take home midterm and final. Very fair grading and assignments.

Professor Porter is really great, especially in this class. You begin by reviewing the basics of hypothesis testing, but then quickly get into linear and multiple regression, logistic and ordinal regression, interactions, etc. This class is very valuable if you're interested in / want to learn about regression for your future job. Professor Porter also really cares about her students and will pause to answer any questions. She also answers them in-depth to ensure everyone understands what's being taught. Would highly recommend this class and this professor.

I finally understand regression and how to improve regression models beyond R^2

Professor Porter is really nice, course has a pretty light workload, exams are take-homes.

Honestly, I feel like anyone and everyone should take this course to understand econometrics that can be applied in many business settings across various industries.

The material is challenging but Dawn Porter is great, she makes very dense statistical topics as digestable as humanly possible. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to double down on their understanding of Core DSO topics and then some.

Challenging but interesting course for those who want to dive deeper into concepts introduced in the Core DSO course. Prof. Porter is great and spends time to ensure everyone is up to speed on the material.

I concur with everything said about DSO 516. It's so much material to try and retain. Due to COVID-19, we are droppig the group project, which was the opportunity to help retain information by putting it into practice. Otherwise a good class

I thought the information might prove useful for strategy work, but the learnings are much to specific to one capability that will doubtful move the needle on data projects I anticipate in the future.

This class is too much lecture and not enough practical application. There are only a couple HW assignments, so its easy to get through it without practicing what is taught.

The biggest criticism of this course is that its done in JMP, and JMP isn't really used in the workplace. That being said, Dawn Porter is awesome and the course really builds upon a lot of the stats foundations from core. I've found the course to be difficult but fair. If you think you'll use data analysis in your internship, you might want to take this course. Its less Excel-heavy than other courses, so if you're looking for spreadsheet training, look elsewhere.

Not sure how much I'll actually use regression in the real world but it's a great course to learn a data analysis software (JMP) and get into the quant mindset.

This is a great class to learn more about analyzing data and figuring out the best model. Dawn cares so much that students get it, which means you will end up learning a lot. She also has a TA now, which has been extremely helpful. Classes are set up in lecture style and lab style, so it's usually pretty hands-on and engaging.

This is great for anyone who thinks is going to be using data analytics in their career. Dawn has a great way of teaching and organizes the class to make it easy on students. Highly recommend this class!

Dawn Porter is one of the best professors at Marshall. I am eager to use the concepts learned in this class specifically in my summer internship. She made the material very relevant to business and is a very fun teacher.

Professor Porter is excellent! The content can get prety complex and the course is fast paced, but the professor is very good. Exams are "take home", so another benefit of this class is that it is less stressful because you can take your time to answer test questions.
