Best class to learn excel and spreadsheet modelling. Helped a lot during internship

This is a difficult data class but I do think it directly reflects a good portion of the analytics skills you can be expected to utilize as a consultant. Hiroshi is an awesome dude with a great delivery style. The lecture content itself is somewhat dry, but this is a data class after all so it's great to get it from someone who is naturally so entertaining. In terms of DSO classes I think this probably one of most directly useful and applicable options you can select.

The modeling is primarily optimization and statistics. Most are not used unless you are in supply chain or operations. the professor has good ideas but it isn't worth a whole class. I'd recommend just taking a specific functional class in finance or operations to learn the modeling. This wasn't very helpful or applicable.

This class is largely workshop based and will teach you how to apply your budding excel and statistics skills in real business models. From optimization to process decisions to financial valuation models, this class provides a depth of real-world applications. Omeed is awesome. He teaches to the least common denominator and cuts out all the crap that you don't need in real life. It is a bit technical, so be prepared for a challenge here and there, but nothing in the homework or project is outside the scope of the powerpoints. If you don't attend class then you are likely going to fall behind and it will be difficult to catch up. I stayed up to date and attended every class. I never once considered skipping, unlike my other classes, because the content was that good. Take this class if you ever want to use Excel like a real business person and don't want to have to figure things out from square one. 10/10 would recommend to friends

Omeed is a pretty good teacher and this is a pretty useful class. He could care more, but when he gets into it, he's very into it. You'll learn a number of Excel modeling functions that should be useful in our future.

I came into this class on a wave of high praise, but it failed to meet expectations. That said, the professor is very engaging and the material has certainly taught me more about some Excel usage that I hope to use in the future. Remains to be seen if it is actually useful. Many classes felt they could be worth missing, and much of what I learned was from classmates.

Great class, a must take for all USC MBAs. Professor knows his stuff, however is a little cocky. Regardless these skills are important to understand whether you're actually doing the modeling or background to understand models throughout your career

This class is great to learn how to model real life examples of cost reduction, profit maximization, etc. However, the professor can be very rude sometimes.

The professor can be a stickler for on-time arrival/name tags at times; however, having people coming in 10-15 min late is a bit distracting. The course material is interesting to help streamline Excel modeling. Prior to this course I'd rate myself a power user of excel; however, there are some tricks and techniques which I hadn't seen before.

Taking this class will probably depend on who the professor is. Prof. Selbe is great at breaking down and explaining Excel models. You will learn a lot about Excel, Tableau and Crystal Ball that will probably come in handy during your internship/full-time job.

Difficult course if you are not already strong in excel basics.

Professor is sometimes hard to reach/unclear, but the content is GREAT! You will have to do work for this class - don't fall behind!

The class is hard & the professor is a cool dude but he doesn't really "teach" in class - you run through examples and kind of have to just "get your hands dirty" with Excel to understand it. He's super helpful outside of class and VERY happy to help. The stuff you learn is really invaluable for the future of where business is going.
