A great background class for computer modeling of business scenarios. Great overview for students looking to develop modeling skills, but probably not at all useful unless you are relatively confident you will need these skills. Class has a relatively high workload and the exams can be challenging. The professor is great about being available for students who need help, and generally very chill, but is very strict in class when it comes to being late--he will kick you out of class!

Consider this course as an obligatory extension of your Core classes. Every student should take this

BEST CLASS AND PROFESSOR AT MARSHALL! BID AS MANY POINTS AS POSSIBLE TO GET IN. I used the templates we made nearly everyday during my internship.

Great class that teaches you how to productively use excel. There is a good chance that I will never use the models we worked on, but the intuition behind how excel works and understanding what can be done is top notch. Professor is very knowledgeable, hands on, and makes the class easier to understand

This is a great class to help develop excel skills and further improve your understanding of modeling . Selbe is a fantastic professor - highly recommend him to anyone.

If you already know the basic data tools (Crystal ball, solver, data tables, pivot tables), then this class may not be a good 'bang-for-your-buck'. Omeed is a great prof. who covers the basics of these concepts, and ow to 'present' it in a business ready format. However, if you already have a background in data, you will end up wasting most of your time waiting for the slower students to catch up. In this case, I recommend a more complex class such as Analytics Edge.

This is a really good analytics class that teaches you some useful excel tricks for optimization and regression. I would call it an intermediate analytics / excel class and a good continuation after core. You will learn to use solver a lot too, and apply it to different situations. There is a lot of homework for this class though, so be prepared to put some time in, especially if you aren't comfortable with excel. Everyone should probably take this class.

Fast paced and you'll have to work really hard but it's incredibly useful and handy.

The class is well structured and provides different tools to make decisions on a business setting with Excel modeling. The professor provided frameworks that you can actually apply in your next job!

An uber practical, workshop style course taught by a professor who loves teaching. Selby can be both goofy and intense. As a Harvard MBA, he recognizes the gap between a Harvard student and a USC student and is trying to raise the bar here. If you are the type of student who stumbles into class late I would not advise taking a class taught by Selby. Trust me on this one.

Great class, just tell Selbe to not get involved in political conversations with the class that are completely biased to his own personal beliefs. He needs to stop blaming President Trump for his travel policy and focus on teaching kids the great things he has taught on excel. Iran is the number 1 state sponsor or terror, he has Iranian heritage, that is great, but he does not live in the real world.

This course should focus more on building applicable models. It has taught me useful skills in Excel, but unless I'm pursuing a career in operations (I'm not), most of the models I've build will not be relevant to my professional projects in the future. Professor Selbe should also slow down and explain concepts more thoroughly. He seems to expect the class to be at a higher level of statistical and Excel understanding than most participants are. That being said, he's very knowledgeable and offers a hands-on learning environment.

This is a very useful class that covers solver, crystal ball, data tables, etc. The professor is good, sometimes hard to follow but he spends time going around and really wants people to learn. The tests are HARD but hugely curved. There are HW assignments (take maybe 2 hours) and Problems of the Day. There is also a group assignment. Highly recommend.

Challenging if you're not an Excel wiz but a good way to build skills.

Pretty similar to Paat's Edge class but not quite as intense. I would recommend doing this first then Paat. Overall good class, not great but gives a solid excel foundation.

Most people think this class is for teaching excel basics, and it's not, which is a good thing. First half of class covers solving optimization problems. He covers all kinds of optimization problems from max/min, transportation, and network problems. Second part of class covers decision trees and using crystal ball. Both really good tools for modeling data. Material is very relevant.

This is a great class for analytics newbies or a great first class for analytics nerds who will go HAM the following year. Professor is flexible and seems to be refining his curriculum every year.
