Its a must take class for those planning to pursue career in Ops Consulting. You will learn how to think like a consultant. The professor is a consultant hence he provides templates, frameworks that are used within the industry. He is always available and is very quick with his email responses.

This course is very useful for learning more about how to construct a PowerPoint, formatting data in Excel and Tableau and learning how to use Visio - all very useful skills for consulting (among other industries). You also complete a team project throughout the semester and gives you a great opportunity to work on an operations type project and apply the skills you've learned in class to a real life situation. Professor Bayiz is very nit picky with his comments on homework and presentations, but he means well and is giving you that feedback to ensure you perform well in front of your client and in your future job.

I took this class to get a hands-on learning experience with a real world operations problem, so to that extent, the class has fulfilled that. However, I'm not sure it gives us the tools to actually solve said problem since we are working with ops experts and we as students have very little ops experience. If you're not going into consulting, the guest lectures can be pretty dull. The professor does care about the students, but I'm not sure I'd take this class if I had the chance to pick again.

There are good basic/practical skills you learn in this class that make it worthwhile but the consulting project is time consuming/not worthwhile so be aware. You will learn Excel and PPT tricks, Tableau, Visio and important Ops calculations/appraoches to problem solving. Prof Bayiz is fun and lighthearted, VERY organized and always makes sure that every student is caught up before advancing in content--he genuinely cares.

You learn useful skills within excel, tableau, and powerpoint. Guest speakers are every week or two, and they are great. You also choose a project in which you are to help their operations as if you are a consulting team. Workload is managable, with very few assigned readings.

I took Prof. Bayiz's project management class before this one. I liked the structure of project management more than this one. While I believe the real-world consulting project will be helpful, I didn't care for the structure of the class. You learn useful tools such as Tableau and Visio but I found that 20% of class time was wasted on housekeeping items such as lecturing us on how to dress/how to write e-mails to clients. If you're interested in ops consulting, I would take this.

This is the most effective instructor in the MBA program. The class directly provides students with hard resume skills regardless of career field, specifically in Visio, Excel, & Tableau.

This is my second class with Bayiz. He is very nice, has a great personality, and cares lot that you are learning and getting a useful experience. You will learn some valuable programs like Tableau, Visio, etc. that are tangible takeaways and will conduct an actual operations consulting project for a company. I think what you put into it will be what you get out of it. My criticism of the course is that there are too many guest speakers who just about all are from the consulting world and it becomes too repetitive (especially since attendance is "mandatory" for guest speaker days).

The class will be useful for both consultants and non-consultants. You'll learn ppt skills, Tableau, Visio, presentation skills. You will work on a real consulting project which may take a lot of time. Otherwise the workload is not huge.

Murat is one of the best professors. The class is project based but you will still learn Visio, Tableu and practice creating decks.

This class provides a great learning experience because it gives you the opportunity to use tools that are widely applied in the industry, you get access to real life problems through the consulting project you work on (it's hands-on with real data and with a clearly defined goal (more than PRIME), you practice continually with short exercises to force you to learn the tools and topics. You use: - MS Visio - Excel Solver - Tableau You get real life projects with companies like: Nestle, J&J, Tom's, etc. The professor is well organized and has a clear structure for the course with very helpful reminders of the weekly schedule on Sundays.

Professor Bayiz is nice. The software traning sessions are very slow and basic, so don't expect to learn great excel, powerpoint, visio, etc from him. Interesting guest speakers (all from consulting firms; Deloitte, PWC,...). 40% of the course grade is from a group project, where you have a real world "consulting style" problem to solve for a company (J&J, TOMS, Nestle,...). There are 3 class presentations for this project + all the presentations and meetings with the client. This project can be very time consuming (or not, depends on your group). If you want to go into consulting specifically for Operations, it is a must take course. Otherwise, it is not so great.

Strongly recommend for those interested in operations and/or operations consulting. Great practical skills including Excel, Visio, Tableau, all with a focus on building effective consulting results/presentations. Project based class where the value you get back from the project probably varies somewhat from project to project. Wish I had taken this class prior to my operations internship. Class is a high workload class, so balance with lighter classes, but definitely worth the effort for those entering these fields.

Professor is awesome - humourous and helpful. Class content is very practical and really puts you in the shoes of a consultant. No exams but a consulting project with actual clients with weekly/bi-weekly client discussions. Practical skills learned in class include Excel (PivotTables), Visio and Tableau.

Take before your internship if you're going into consulting and haven't done consulting ppt slides before. Helps you visualize data, which is great for everyone. Bayiz is awesome and the work load isn't too much. The major project kind of sucks but no worse than any other class.
Spring 2016 · Bayiz, Murat · 3 units
Tableau and powerpoint exercises were very useful for consulting fields; decent amount of work is required since the majority of the work is a client facing consulting project (good choice of companies & projects to choose from)

Bayiz is funny, interesting and seems to genuinely care about his students. He also provides good instruction with regard to skills that are actually marketable in a professional environment. You'll actually get to work on a consulting engagement with some interesting clients such as Northrop Grumman, TOMS, Nestle, J&J etc. There are a lot of projects across a variety of fields. If you're looking to be a consultant this is a a must take class.

Project selected will really make or break this class. Bayiz is awesome but a non-engaging project will limit enjoyment of this class.

The content is highly useful for future professional skills, not only for consultancy but also for any customer-facing or project-based positions. The professor is super nice and easy-to-communicate. This class is highly recommenced for people interested in consulting, product management, project management, and internal strategic planning.
