The class is really heavy-loaded with homework (quant challenges, customer interview presentations, group work etc). Althougth Larry is a very well-structured prof and very professional in the field, I am concerned that market research is not a useful technique for my future career path and the profession itself is also a narrow path with a lot of critisim (challenged by AI etc). I would only recommend this course if you are super duper into customer research

The course is required for the MSBA degree, so the Fall semester is mostly students in that program; as a result, it leans more into the quantitative than it might in the Spring, which has more MBA & MS in Marketing students. The course covers a variety of statistical methods for analyzing consumer behavior, and while it is reiterated that everything can be done in Microsoft Excel, the Professor utilizes R for everything, so you may find it helpful to already have a good foundation in using that platform or be prepared to spend alot of time throughout the course learning it on your own (he does not teach it during the course). Also very helpful to have taken MKT 566 Decision Making Using Marketing Analytics beforehand as a few of the statistical analysis methods are covered in that course.

I've heard great things about the professor and I'm really interested in consumer insights, but this class is unbearable. Classes are all discussion and he does not go over any of the hard skills needed to do even the homework he assigns. Also, there are too many touchpoints across multiple platforms (slack. podcasts, blackboard, etc) that burden the class

Professor Vincent is really nice and engaging, and he has adapted to the online learning format as best as possible. However, the content itself is pretty repetitive if you've taken any other marketing classes (specifically Marketing Management in core and Market Demand and Sales Forecasting). It's also quite a bit of work with a lot of readings, case polls, case discussions, podcast listenin and discussions, individual homework assignments, a group research assignment, and a final exam.

I took this class because I had heard great things about Professor Vincent and his NPD course, but have been disappointed so far. Class time involves long case discussions (which don't feel productive because it's always the same few people that participate) and then students are expected to teach themselves material which he posts on Blackboard/Slack. Homework does not reinforce material covered in class, but always seems to be brand new/too advanced for the class's level. You can see that he is trying to make the course engaging (he created a podcast for it that is excellent and is very responsive to students over Slack) but has a few wrinkles to iron out still. Maybe skip this class and take his New Product Development course in the spring instead?

Professor Vincent is great and engages the classroom in a multitude of ways (Slack, Videos, Modules, etc). He demands a good deal of work: a couple of individual assignments, group project, case polls, and projects. Cases were all interesting and the class a healthy dose of R and data. You'll need to self-study a bit to get accustomed to R.

Stay away from this class. As far as possible. It is useless and you will be irritated with the softwares taught because they don't work more than half the time and you end up investing time and money into them to gain NOTHING.

The teaching was so bad. Most of the time the professor spent time on useless technical details while spending no time to interpret the data or clarify their meaning in terms of marketing decisions. In addition, the professor seems unprepared and she could not answer MOST questions that students asked. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME IN THIS CLASS.

Good class if you want to get into marketing as a data person, stay away otherwise.

I'm not entirely sure what we're supposed to be learning. I've learned a lot of the content in statistics class and other marketing classes.

The professor kept saying that this is going to be a boring class and that she's sorry that this is such a boring class, that it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. Seemed like no one was really paying attention to what was going on and it really didn't seem that important. At least I got some other work done in the class...!

She taught us a statistical software that you could t use on your personal computer and she also did not really know how to use it. There is also a lot of overlap with the Demand Forecasting class.

Total joke. What on paper seems like a good use of time turns out to be completely worthless. Cannot stimulate any engagement and just overall boring.

What a disappointing class. I was hoping for some interesting ways to approach analytics, but this class is just an extremely weak retread of statistical theories taught in Core. Plus you don't even use cutting edge analytical software (she opts for Minitab as opposed to tools like R). It's a waste of time and money.

Prof Mayzlin does not know how to teach a class at an MBA level. I thought this class would be helpful for my career, but found it absolutely worthless and dreaded going to class. She does not know how to engage the class or teach at a high level.

Not extremely useful.

The class is some what interesting. Good practice for creating your own survey and seeing through fruition. She's a nice professor, though still learning a bit how to control the class
