I saw this class was recommended in prior years; however, it does not seem like it translates well on Zoom. The professor obviously enjoys teaching this material but he can go off on random tangents / the direction of his lectures can seem quite scattered. I feel like this class would be a fair amount better in-person, but I would not recommend anyone take this class over Zoom.

One those classes where everything makes sense in the moment, but by the following day, you've completely forgotton everything. While I appreciate that the data sets we analyze in class are simplified and cleaned up for student use, I worry that this doesn't train us for the realies of messy data we'd receive on the job. At the very least, you'll leave this class knowing that there are some ways to measure advertising ROI and efficacy, even if you can't recall the steps to analyze the data yourself. Professor is super nice, flexible, has realistic expectations, and a sense of humor.

I took this class because it was HIGHLY recommended by my classmates. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be an online class. Siddarth is a sweet, sweet, man and very accessible outside of class and the material is pretty practical if you are pursuing a data-led marketing role. With that said, his lectures are incredibly difficult to follow over Zoom as he has a tendancy to jump around and go off topic. I'm hoping that isn't the case once classes are in person again, but be prepared to teach yourself the material after class to stay caught up.

Took this course based on previous year students recommendation. Some content was a repetition from core marketing and data science course, but this course takes a more practical approach. I wish he covered topics a little faster and covered more topics, but he was highly constrained with pace as students stopped him more frequently to ask questions. Siddarth has all the patience in the world!

Not a lot of unique content to the elective. Not enough to justify 3 credits. This course sits in a cozy sweet spoot between marketing and data science from the core classes. Fun professor though. Siddharth knows what he is talking about, enjoys the subject and the experience of teaching.

Professor is very energetic and cares a lot about his students. He is very willing to help outside of class. As mentioned, he does jump around a lot and is hard to follow. He often doesn't fully explain examples and tells us to work on them outside of class and re-watch his lectures if we are having a hard time understanding. This means you need to spend a lot of time on your own learning, time that we often don't have. Also, as someone with a quantitative background, I'm not sure this class provides a lot of new information that I haven't learned already in some capacity.

Professor Siddarth is very passioante about the subject and is really helpful if you need the extra review (you just have to actually tell him if you're struggling, he wants to help). His classes move really quickly and it can be hard to retain everything the first time if you struggle with Excel, so you may have to do the outside work of rewatching lecture videos or the additional provided videos to get the Excel work down. If you're looking for a class that will give you a really useful, tangeable skill for marketing I would definitely take this class.

Absolutely one of the best classes I've taken EVER. I come from a more creative background, and at first I was a little intimidated by the pace of the class and the very quant-heavy learnings. But he strongly encourages students to create spreadsheets/frameworks/other technology every class. He is also one of the most available professors outside of the classroom, and embraces every question. You'll learn a lot about the quantitative aspects of marketing/product management. Also, he's hilarious.

Siddarth is entertaining and really cares about teaching. He wants his students to get the most they can out of his class. But he moves extremely quickly and jumps around which makes it challenging to follow what he's saying. That being said, I think what he's teaching is valuable and I do feel like I'm learning. The class essentially explains all the seemingly pointless concepts you learn in the Marketing Core class. You use excel to run regressions and create models based on applicable, relevant data sets.

Not a huge fan of the professor but still he's somewhat entertaining. Content is a little outdated but will force you to become more comfortable with excel and analytical methods. Good class to take after the core Data Science class if you're new to that kind of content but want to learn more.

Professor gets distracted often and jumps around material but the amount I've learned already is sizeable. Would highly recommend as a requirement if pursuing a marketing background. Used assignments as examples in interviews and got offer based on it.

This is a really informative course, and gives you a deep dive in the world of demand modeling and forecasting. Whether or not you're looking to go into this space, the models and techniques you learn in this class will be really useful in understanding how businesses can model products based on customer preferences, forecast sales for products etc. The professor keeps the class entertaining and does a great job of grounding these concepts in a way you can understand them. That being said, it is one of the more challenging courses - not so much from an Excel standpoint, but more from a conceptual one. Nonetheless, really worth taking.

Fair warning - this class flies. Day one assumes you have some working knowledge of regression analysis, and Siddarth plows ahead from there. He is very engaging if you are following along, but you can get lost if you tune out on your laptop instead. The skills he teaches in class are essential for a marketer, strategist, entrepreneur, or a consultant working on a product launch or opportunity. The homework assignments are done in group (take a few hours of very focused work) and the midterm requires a decent amount of prep (I assume the final will be the same). I would recommend the class but emphasize the importance of following along or dedicating time to watching course recordings when cramming for the exams.

very theoretical and unnecessarily detailed. potentially useful models but not taught well. Siddarth tries too hard to be funny and swears a lot unnecessarily as well. There were 3 group projects which were very complex.

The professor is all over. He talks too much, repeats himself, and has the accent that makes it sometimes hard to follow him. He makes things complicated in terms of common abbreviations. He creates his own names for variables which are very confusing at times. However, I think the content is good. I was able to relate to my internship experience. He talks about stuff I did during summer. I wish I took the class earlier.

The professor does a good job of explaining difficult material. The class is interesting and useful. There is some overlap with Marketing Analytics.

The class content is definitely useful. And Siddarth is definitely a brilliant professor. But the class goes very very fast. For someone like me is not that familiar with those statistic theories or excel functions could be pretty struggled.
Fall 2016 · Siddharth, S · 3 units
Although the class presents multiple models to forecast demand, the class is a little slow. It provides interesting examples but you don't get to work very much in the models during class (as is my experience with other classes/professors). The evaluation is very subjective but assignments provide really good learning experience. Something you can apply in your job. If you are considering this one and Pricing Strategies, go with this one only. There is a heavy overlap between both and this one is better structured.
