Everyone should take a course by Badame. She's one of the best professor's I've ever had. Amazing guest speakers. This class is a lot of work, so not an easy A.
Spring 2016 · Badame, Diane · 3 units
This class is definitely worth taking. Almost every single class is about a marketing case study so you learn a ton about prominent companies and how they brand themselves. You get to analyze and learn from real marketing challenges that businesses face. Professor Badame is a decent professor, but her greatest strength lies in her professional connections. She brings in tons of guest speakers from fantastic companies. These guest speakers give great presentations, provide insight into their industry that you would never have known, and have a very unique and fascinating perspective on the world. As long as you read the case studies before attending class, you will get a lot out of Badame's course.

Strongly recommend this course for anyone pursuing a career in luxury or fashion marketing.

This is an okay class if you are really into marketing, retail, or fashion. It's very similar to Marketing Strategy & Policy, but with a fashion and luxury focus. So if you need just 1 marketing class you should take Strategy & Policy as that's a lot more universially applicable, as this class is so specific. This class has a lot of reading. The speakers are all great though. Professor Badame cares and is enthusiastic but it's hard to listen to lecutres for 3 hours sometimes. Take it for the speakers.

Dr Badame structures all her classes pretty well. Interesting and updated content, great speakers. Best class i took this semester.

This class is case based with a bunch of good speakers from the industry. It is divided into the three parts of Fashion, Luxury, and Lifestyle, so that means that the first few weeks are only fashion, then luxury, and lifestyle close to the end (if you guys are interested in cars and such, be patient) / Personally, I was a bit tired of the commitment to read 2 cases per week (unless there was a speaker that week, then just 1), but for class discussion you have to read the cases. The discussions ideas tend to be a bit repetitive so if you skip a class or two, you'll be fine. / The midterm was on blackboard, open notes, and you could take it from home. It was an analysis of a new case so no need to recall old cases. Not sure yet if the final will be the same. / The group project has no deliverables until the end, there are 3 reflection papers to submit for 3 of the speakers (one page) and one individual case analysis paper on your choice of case.

This is the only class that focuses in on a specific industry segment and she does it pretty well. Her lectures are a bit rough but her speakers are almost always of extremely high quality. If you're interested in these types of companies it gives you a great foundation for thinking about them.
