Course material is applicable for all parts of life - job negotiation, leasing an apartment, hiring a service, etc. Professor is fair and teaches well.

Coursework is perfect. Professor is very sweet but she reads a lot from her slides. Given that she has put so much effort into building those slides, just using her slides to understand everything is sufficient

You get out what you put in, take the negotiations seriously.

Who is this class for? Helpful for all students to understand principles of negotiations

This class teaches you the basics of negotiation tactics and deal-making. The first half of class is lecture and the second half is a negotiation. Light workload but the midterm has a lot of weight and is tricky.

It's a good class and interesting topics but midterm was a bit too intensive imo, and the in-class negotiations are a tad too "fake" for me to get much out of it from a practical perspective

Great class, everyone should take it. Skills are immediately useful. You do a practice negotiation in each class which is a nice way to balance the lectures. Prof is very precise and it can seem like an overly academic approach to a real-world skill, but that's being nitpicky.

I think this class could easily be taught through a 1.5unit component. Christine is a kind professor, but a full blown semester is not needed to negotiate in my opinion.

Love this class! Every session is a lecture and a real negotiation practice. Passionate professor and great experiences, highly recommend!

I like this class because it forces you to practice negotiation and negotiation skills that are taught during the course. The professor is quirky but she seeks to understand and work with you for the best. I don't really like how there are written midterms/final exams, especially since this class is social-based, but it's not the end of the world.

Who is this class for? Should be relevant to all MBA students
Spring 2023 · El-Haddad, Christine · 3 units
This is an enjoyable class that is relevant both in your career and your personal life (i.e., negotiating business partnerships, but also negotiating things like the purchase of a car); the principles apply even outside of class. The first half of each session is spent in lecture, the second half you practice a "mock" negotiation. I found the practice negotiations very useful, they are complex enough that they feel relevant to real life and it helps build your confidence. The lecture piece, however, was dull. Prof. El Haddad pretty much just summarized the readings in bullet point slides. If you read the two main books on the syllabus "Getting to Yes" and "Negotiating Genius" you are getting the same concent that you will get from the lecture. So my take on this class is that the only valuable thing is the practice negotiations and related reflections. The concepts are not hard to grasp, just hard to put into practice, so for the everyday person your time is better spent just reading those two books in your personal time. BUT if you want an easy, enjoyable class that helps you build your confidence with being a negoiator, then this class is worth your time and Prof. Christine is friendly, fair, and provides good structure to her class.

Great class - a nice break from the normal class structure. Lots of reading (that you don;t have to do to be successful) and otherwise reasonable work level and provides practical tools regardless of your next role.

Fantastic class with great hands-on experiences. Being able to practice different techniques we learn about in class is a great experience and I would highly recommend this class as a must-take in the MBA

I love this class and I love Scott. Everyone should take Negotiations at some point during their time at Marshall.

Professor is really nice. You don't have to read the material because lecture will cover everything from the book.
