This class can get a little bit repetitive but I think the concepts can be applied and his stories are interesting. The course load is not heavy or difficult - you just practice a case negotiation with a classmate every week and write about a couple negotiations you've done.

The course should be a 1.5 unit course, because the class is redundant after week 5.

Professor has mastered a distinct skill and can convey his techniques effectively. This course feels like it could be a 1.5 hour course. "Tools" provided from this class feel like they will be useful for a long time.

Everyone should take a negotiations class as the things taught work for any career. This class provides some interesting tricks and tips to negotiate with other people. Voss is an interesting character. Sometimes the information in class tends to repeat itself, but a lot of getting comfortable with negotiations is just practicing a lot.

The discussions and negotiation excercises are a great chance for you to directly apply the techniques learned in the classroom and see their real impact. The prof is good and experienced in the real world and, although the class is highly repetitive in terms of what you read on the book, it has important takeaways. Things you'll need in different aspects of your life!

Conceptually a great course, should be a 1.5 though, runs out of steam after the first three classes.

Sprinkled into his lectures may be some actual good advice completely founded on anecdotes with some politically incorrect language posing as knowledge and research. I don't care that he was a "top negotiator for the FBI", being a good athlete doesn't make you a good coach. It feels like a 3 hour long infomercial to buy his book or hire his company. "Let me tell you about this time..." Try another teacher maybe?

Good class - First few weeks were the best. Started to wane towards the back end but professor does bring a unique twist with his FBI background

Great course. Gets a little repetitive and could thus be restructured to a half course, but definitely a useful course to take with a great lecturer.

Good soft skills class to take. Prof knows his stuff and teaches well. Each class has a practice negotiation so you get real practice in negotiations.

really useful class both for negotiations and leadership in general. Not heavy workload, just regular assignments due each week.

Class is terrible. You don't learn anything. Terrible waste of tuition dollars.

"So this is a great, great course and can be attributed to a lot of my success in recent business type transactions and acts as a wicked Jedi mind trick in winning 'nothing fights' with the girlfriend. It's also helped personal relationships significantly through thinking more empathetically. And the professor is great. Former suicide hotline operator turned FBI hostage negotiator with a sense of humor. I have zero doubt this guy knows what he's talking about. However, it's too long. This should be a 1.5 credit course or, at the very least, not three hours at a time. We harp on the same topic for a long time. Maybe this is necessary as they're important topics, but sometimes boredom eclipses wonder. Still, take this course. It is fantastically necessary for success. Of that I have no doubt."

Sometimes classes take 45 min to even get started. Lots of just sitting around.

All of the content we learned in this course was taught in the first class. Professor Voss spends most of our class time repeating the same concepts and telling anecdotes, trying to fill time. We also spend a lot of the class role playing, which gets very old. This class hasn't been useful enough to be a 3 credit full semester course.

I'm impressed how useful this class has been. Prof. Voss was a FBI hostage negotiator and he does a great job applying hostage negotiating to business.
