Best professor at Marshall, full stop! Wildly helpful course that gave me highly practical skills. This should be a mandatory course - it's that crucial. It's highly competitive to get in - spend ALL of your bidding points if you want in.

Love this class! Bayiz is an amazing professor who cares so much about his students. We basically work through examples each class. You will learn how to make slick visuals (using a bunch of different tools) and best practices for how to present it in Powerpoint. Good mix of individual and group assignments. This is a must-take if you are going into consulting.

Great class if you want to learn more of what excel is capable of. Mostly focused on operations applications but there's some data viz included. Classes are typically prof. walking you through building a model to solve a specific problem. Can be tricky if you're not great at keeping up with computer stuff but for the right person this class is pure gold. Murat is the man, he clearly loves the subject matter and loves teaching.

Grading is precise and it is crucial to follow the professor's instructions closely for homework to receive the correct grades. Who is this class for? Some models are designed for finance, supply chain and marketing. Final Thoughts:

There's some work that needs to be done, but nothing overwhelming (and this is coming from someone who had only basic exposure to Excel and no exposure to Tableau whatsoever.) Grading is fair Who is this class for? Students interested in strategy and optimization would probably find this class very useful! Final Thoughts: Professor Bayiz is one of the professors who deeply care about his students, especially FTMBA students as he used to be the academic director of our program!

His teaching style is amazing and really cares about student's growth Who is this class for? analytically driven students will benefit from this class. If you plan to go into consulting then this class will be useful too Final Thoughts: Take at least one class under Professor Bayiz to get the most out of your MBA program

Very practical and useful class when you're interested in data and operation

Take this class with Professor Bayiz, not Professor Subramanian. He would forget how to use excel sometimes and asked you to google or figure it out by yourself. Very heavy assignments, 8 gourp assignments with many questions + class quizzes + individual assignments.

The syllabus is pretty comprehensive. However, the professor expects students to learn the basics of Excel on their own through a tutorial add-in and focuses more on teaching solver (so far). It's an online class and without fail the professor has technical troubles in each class which can be funny and exasperating at the same time. With all that said, I appreciate the detailed class slides and model illustrations.

As the name suggests, the class is focussed on modelling. Because it makes you use a lot of Excel, you will train those muscles and you will come out stronger with Excel, but if you don't expect to work with 3000+ numerical datapoints to predict data, or create timetables, or make shortest path type optimisation problems for operations, this class will be a major mismatch. It does throw in Tableau and @ Risk for good measure, which is amazing and takes some of the Excel dreariness off. The heavy emphasis on Excel for modelling makes the class somewhat limited in its approach and applicability. Bayiz's teaching style is hit and miss. He does race through stuff, so if you want to linger on a problem to digest how he did it, you will be out of luck. All sessions are recorded, so be ready to invest extra time. I also sense some middle-school like 'who gets the solution first' environment, which is probably not very MBAish IMO.

40% of the class is SOLVER! if your job don't use Excel Solver then you wasted 40% of your tuition

You can learn about excel solver and tableau and it is helpful. But Professor doesn't take time to explain logic behind the execution and students just have to follow what the professor is doing and that's how you learn.

Not a useful class if you want to learn. very easy class if you want light coursework. Syllabus is exactly same as any other Richard Selby class - Business Analytics, Pyhton etc. Exams are take home wihtout hands on mostly. Project is in teams and needs hand on. The professor spoon feeds moslty what to do in assignment. lenient grader.

The professor is nice but lacks ability to explain clearly. It touches many facets of Excel but focuses a lot on optimization

Professor is very kind, patient, and wants his students to succeed, but his teaching style is just not for me. I do not think the tools we have learned so far are very applicable/transferable.

This is a super useful class if you need to learn or brush up on your excel skills. You also learn different modeling software which is useful. Bayiz is a great professor and always so helpful and truly cares about his students.
