FBE 557 - Business Law and Ethics

A light work load class! The professor is humorous, and uses many real-world examples to help us understand the concepts.

Content could talk through more engaging examples, class is pretty dry. Professor Fields is great.

There are very few assignments, 6 open note quizzes, and three exams so for the most part minimal work required Who is this class for? Final Thoughts: Kerry Fields is the best. I wouldn't say this course is super applicable to my career but I really really like it

Easy class but very informative and useful. Who is this class for? A student who is interested in law and wants to connect with a great professor. Final Thoughts: Great experience.

Fields is an engaging professor. His annecdotes are always interesting and entertaining. As the person above mentioned, quizzes and exams can be hard. Long live the curve.

Fields has forgotten more law than you or I will ever know. He has great stories. That said, Fields does NOT do a good job of setting expectations with respect to projects, assignments, or tests, so you sometimes feel like you are just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks. His quiz/test questions are also worded confusingly (that's the lawyer in him); he sometimes has a hard time translating law-speak into plain English. This can be very frustrating. Come to learn, just don't care about your grade because you have a limited amount of control over it.

Love this class. Challenging quizzes and exams, but very easy class sessions. Straight lecture, no cold calling, lots of humor. Fields takes a dry subject matter and makes it interesting with personal anecdotes and examples. Also no class participation grade which is cool.

Good class overall. Fields makes it fun, and aims to give students a good base knowledge of business law. He is also absolutely hilarious and I think half the reason he teaches is just to tell jokes every day.

Helpful for anyone who will one day be a business leader. Fields is a great professor and very entertaining as well.

Very, very useful class that gives you a broad overview of the most important legal concepts that a business student should know. I honestly think this could even be a core class. Workload so far is moderate, class is also of medium difficulty (neither super hard, nor super easy). The professor is a funny guy, he likes ot tell stories which makes the class entertaining but I sometimes wish he would stick a little more to the script. Nonetheless, it's a good class and I recommend it.

The class covers key business-related legal topics at a fairly high level. Not enough of course that you won't need a lawyer, but hopefully enough to keep you from doing something stupid in a contract negotiation, or getting sued. Good class, Fields is a fun guy.

Very dry lecture style, sometimes has a funny and relevant story sprinkled in, but it's a lot of nitty gritty legal technicalities.

Interesting class with a kind and nice professor, workload is light, and if you actually pay attention and go to class (not required at all) you will have a good time and learn some interesting things related to law and business. Not necessarily an easy A but a very easy pass and if you try a good grade should be obtained

Very useful content, especially if you want to be a business owner or leader in any company. Agree with everything in the synopsis from the line above. If you've ever been interested in learning about law this is the perfect amount of work/info to get a great foundation without having to put in too much work. Honestly, the content in this class has been one of the the most useful/interesting of all my Marshall classes.

If there is one class that will provide you a whole toolbox of what to do when it comes to business law, this is it. Super important topics are taught around contracts, litigation, intellectual property, torts, etc. You will need this information in business and life for sure! The professor is kinda old and not always PC, but he is a crazy skilled lawyers with great stories about real business law cases he has worked (and won!) and I feel like I've learned a lot. Also an easy A.

This is one of the best and most useful classes I have taken at Marshall. Most of us will likely be dealing with contracts and other aspects of the law at various points throughout our business careers, and thanks to this class I will be much better prepared to do so. Fields comes off as dry at first but don't let that scare you away; he's extremely sharp, laid-back, and also hilarious! Tests are fair and the workload is completely reasonable; you just need to keep up with the reading and do one group project, which actually turned out to be really interesting. Take this class. You won't regret it.

In corporate strategy, having even a baseline understanding of business law concepts will be so helpful in the planning and deal-making I anticipate in the future. Fields is both knowledgeable and personable. The concepts can feel difficult to grasp all at once, but if you actually read the textbook (really not hard unless you cram it into 24 hours before a midterm) you will pick up more than you expect!
